The studies on the “resurgence” of the ethnicities have mostly attempted to explain this phenomenon through deep modifications in the economic, political or social structures of the multi-ethnic societies. Very little emphasis is put on the socio-economic dynamic which nevertheless caracterizes each ethnic group. From the analysis of the genesis of the haïtian ethnicity in Quebec, this paper will explain that this intra-ethnic dynamic could have the form of a process of control on behalf of an ethnic lower middle class, of an ethnic deal of political, economic, social or other services based upon an ethnic « clientèle ». The ethnicization concept will allow us to understand the structure of a true Haïtian “community”.
