The country’s first heritage library makes its collections of printed works published in Saint-Domingue before 1804 available on its website. It has also deemed it relevant to include certain polemical texts dating before 1820 (prior to the unification of the island), thus offering insight into a nation in the making. This collection includes numerous documents on slavery and its abolition. Additionally, 19th-century books and newspapers, as well as 20th-century public domain documents, will be progressively digitized and made available online. In this way, Haiti’s oldest library shares part of its valuable heritage with those interested in the country’s history and culture, reconnecting with its founding mission.
